.ipynb viewer2/21/2023 ![]() ![]() Attempt to save the notebook - IPython still reports that the file is read-only. Clear the read-only flag of the notebook file. Open the notebook - IPython properly detects that the notebook is read-only. Steps to reproduce: Create a new notebook file. Of course that can only happen if you do want to clear the outputs and not just update them by running the cell. Unfortunately, the outputs can still be cleared by intentionally selecting that option in the menu bar (Edit > Clear Ouputs). Save and reload the notebook in Jupyter and, tadah!, your cell can't be modified or deleted. As mentioned in that thread, it would be great to either have a "Save As" feature or to not allow editing of a read-only file. This issue is open in the ipython project here, and it doesn't appear like it's been migrated to jupyter. Jupyter will detect this (after you reload the page) and show that you can’t save anything. You can actually make the entire notebook read-only by setting the file permissions on command line or in properties (works for Windows and Linux).
